What exactly is a Comfort Colors T-shirt?
All of our T-shirts use Comfort Colors 1717 fabric. Comfort Colors was founded in 1975 by Barry Chouinard in a small Vermont garage, driven by a desire to create T‑shirts that felt absolutely amazing and perfectly broken‑in from the very first wear. Over the decades, it has become a globally recognized fabric, known for its soft, comfortable, lived‑in feel and signature vintage, washed finish.
It is made of high quality, heavy weight cotton weighing in at 6.1 ounces per square yard (207 grams per square meter).
What inspired Malibu Oase?
Malibu Oase was inspired by my time living and working in Santa Monica, when Malibu was my escape from the relentless Los Angeles grind and traffic. I loved driving to get away and PCH, with its breathtaking coastline, was a beautiful, cathartic journey.
The inspiration lives in the memories that defined that era: sharing amazing dinners at Reel Inn, grabbing fresh seafood at Neptune's Net, and watching a whale glide past while I stood on a quiet seaside bluff. It’s found in the awe of a surprise dolphin pod cruising along Point Dume Beach, and catching the final rays of daylight at The Sunset Restaurant. Though I no longer live in Santa Monica or visit Malibu as often, these cherished experiences last a lifetime and are woven into the very fabric of Malibu Oase.
How do you pronounce Oase?
English speakers can pronounce it like "oasis" but with a soft "e" at the end. If you are adventurous, you can try the Norwegian pronunciation, which captures a sense of awe, breath‑catching wonder, and stillness. It can be expressed as: “ooo • aaah • suh.”
Do you plan to extend the product line beyond T-shirts?
Our goal is to create the most comfortable high-quality coastal serenity T-shirts you can find in the world. We want our shirts to serve as a dinner bell to chill—the moment you slip one on, it's an immediate call to relax. To achieve this mission, we are experimenting with different coastal motifs, testing new art styles, and developing unique logos and monograms. Once we establish these core elements and truly map our audience's tastes, we absolutely plan to expand into other product lines.
